Other Scholarships
In order to support South-South networking and exchange, DAAD supports selected African regional networks through individual scholarships for postgraduate students. These scholarships are open to Master or PhD students from Sub-Saharan African countries who want to pursue their degree at an African university outside their home country. The focus is on strengthening university staff development through the training of young university staff members or candidates considered for teaching/research staff recruitment. Applications have to be first submitted to these networks which then nominate candidates for the DAAD scholarship. Candidates are asked to complete an application to the specific programme on the DAAD application website only afterwards. DAAD does not accept applications sent directly to the head office in Germany.
All institutions accepting scholarship holders within the In-Country/In-Region funding scheme as well as more information on the aims of the programme can be found on through this link.
These DAAD funded Centres of Excellence at leading African universities create modern educational capacities with supraregional influence. Two centres have been established with the participation of Ghanaian universities. DAAD provides individual scholarships for Master and PhD students. Applications have to be submitted directly to the centers only. DAAD does not accept applications sent directly to the head office in Germany. Enquiries have to be addressed to the programme co-ordinators.
Further information and a list of the established centres can be found on this link.

Albert Kobina Mensah (Former In-region scholarship holder, PhD scholarship holder)The Kenyatta University experience and training with many presentations, field works and proposal writings coupled with various workshops and seminars from DAAD built my confidence level and provided me a very formidable step towards further studies and research at the PhD level. It was again, no wonder that these trainings enabled me to win another DAAD scholarship for PhD training in Germany.
