German was introduced to us at undergraduate level. I therefore seized the opportunity to learn it as I foresaw great opportunities in studying German. My high moments for the summer course was the trips we took around Berlin to explore the city and experience culture. I also love the transport system in Germany. It is well organized and fast. Favorite German word: Auf Wiedersehen

Caroline Asare, University of Ghana

Some high moments of my trip were excursion to Berlin, Kiel and Lübeck. I visited the “Berliner Dom”, “Brandenburger Tor” and the “Hamburger Haden”. I toured these amazing cities and it was really fun. Other high moments were the “Internationaler Abend” organized by the language institute and visits to the Hamburg Planetarium and various Art museums in Hamburg. Big thanks to the DAAD for this wonderful experience. Favorite German word: Ein Eichhörnchen

Ampofo Daniel Kwaku, University of Education, Winneba

One of the biggest cultural differences I noticed during my trip was the punctuality and efficiency in Germany. Everything seemed to run on time, from public transportation to events, which was a bit of a surprise coming from a different cultural background where schedules can be more flexible. I also noticed the strong emphasis on recycling and environmental consciousness, which is more ingrained in daily life than I am used to. These experiences made me reflect on how different cultures approach time management and sustainability. Favorite German word: LuftKuss

Israel Edem Lotsu, Ghana Institute of Languages

We toured Wittenberg, Halle, Leipzig, and finally Berlin visiting many interesting historical places worth noting. We visited the Stadt Kirche where Martin Luther the famous church reformist nailed his 95 thesis, we visited Lutherhaus, Tierpark with many interesting animals, the Wittenberg Museum etc in Wittenberg. In Leipzig, we visited the biggest historical Museum with so much history of the Germans, the St. Nicolaus Kirche where meetings were held to plan for demonstrations or protests against the regime etc. In Halle, we visited the headquarters of the university, the Halle Marktplatz, the Art Museum etc. In Berlin, we visited the Berliner Mauer, the Brandenburger Tor, the Holocaust victim site and the Reichstag building. In all places we learned about interesting and famous personalities in many fields of life. Favorite German word: Entschuldigen

Felix Kujere Awupuli, University of Education Winneba

For me, just as knowledge, language is power and learning German language is the first step towards the 4 language competences with the oral expression the ultimate and also learning German language in addition to English and French is another milestone that will well position me for educational, professional and more especially international mobility opportunities everywhere in the world. Favorite German word: verwenden

I am Raphael Lamptey (Level 400 Biochemistry student, University of Cape Coast).
I had a great time here in Germany these past few weeks. I am a recipient of the DAAD summer school scholarship programme studying German language at the language school here at the University of Göttingen.  I am definitely planning to come back for my master’s programme at this same university.

From Goettingen, Germany.
