DAAD Regional Office Accra
In addition to that, the Regional Office Accra also organises symposia on various university campuses around the country. As a special service, the DAAD country director is available to give presentations on study and research opportunities in Germany upon invitation by a student or professional organisation.
Self-funded students are encouraged to seek advice from the Regional Office before the student visa interview.

All services of the Regional Office are provided free of charge.
The Team
Lena Leumer
Director, Regional Office Accra
Lena Leumer took over as director of the DAAD Office in Ghana in June 2024. She has been working for the DAAD at the headquarters in Bonn since 2011, most recently for the Center for International Academic Collaborations. Her focus is on the Sub-Saharan Africa region and the topics of internationalization of higher education and development cooperation are her main interests. She studied at the Universities of Hamburg and Bonn.
Felix Barnes
Senior Programme Officer
Felix Barnes is the Programme Officer of the Regional Office Accra. He joined the team after some years of study and professional experience in Germany. He completed his Master’s in Sustainable Resource Management in Munich – an international degree programme. Having studied in Germany as a foreign student, he is in the best position to help Ghanaian students wanting to study in Germany. He is available for personal consultation at the DAAD Regional Office at 20 Osu La Crescent, Nyaneba Estates (near to Nyaneba Estates Park).
Dr. Fortune Agbele
Programme Officer
Fortune Agbele has a PhD in political science and specialised knowledge in electoral participation, governance, and international development. Earning her doctorate from the University of Bayreuth, she come with a comparative knowledge in higher education of Germany and West Africa. Fortune’s extensive knowledge of West Africa, including the Nigerian higher education sector, stems from her deep regional engagement and collaboration with academic and development partners.
As a former DAAD scholar and having previously worked with the DAAD in Ghana in 2014, she has insights into the needs of students and academic institutions and is happy to connect with students and academics alike.
Carlton Amegashie
Administrative Coordinator and Account
Graduating with a B.Sc. in Administration, Carlton, our Administrative Coordinator and Accountant is also a PASCH, Goethe Institut and DAAD (summer school) Alumnus. He expanded his international relations experience working within the diplomatic space from 2021 in the areas of Corporate Strategy, Branding, People and Office Management. Carlton also has experience in promoting Germany as a study destination in secondary schools having volunteered with the DAAD Ghana office during study fairs in high schools and colleges.
Agnithur Amponsah Boateng
Programme Assistant
Agnithur Amponsah has obtained a B.A in Translation (English, German and French). As a former DAAD Scholarship holder and having acquired valuable experience working with other German Institutions, she is passionate about facilitating academic and cultural exchange.
Agnithur is committed to contributing to the success of DAAD programs by helping students and scholars expand their global opportunities for academic and professional growth.
David Acquaye
MLab Project Coordinator
David Acquaye is an experienced professional with a strong background in supporting project implementation across diverse sectors, including Agriculture, Education, and Health. He has a proven track record of working with partners on projects funded by major donor agencies like USAID. With a focus on project management, coordination, and implementation of program activities, David brings a wealth of expertise to any team. He holds a degree from the University of Development Studies, Tamale, further solidifying his foundation in development work.
Johanna Mayr
kulturweit-Volunteer
Johanna is the intern at the DAAD Regional Office Accra. She holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the RWTH in Aachen, Germany. As she has only recently completed her studies in Germany, she is happy answer questions about student life in Germany and help Ghanaian students understand more about their options to study in Germany.
